April 25, 2019 --
The new Kelly Road Secondary School continues to take shape.
The state-of-the-art facility, scheduled to open its doors in September of 2020, is being built to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) gold standards. The price tag of the new school is $44.3 million, a cost being shared by the provincial government ($43.3 million) and School District No. 57 ($1 million).
The interior of the new Kelly Road will feature large open spaces conducive to positive learning outcomes. The building is also being designed to allow for an abundance of natural light in the hallways and classrooms.
The new Kelly Road will accommodate up to 900 students.
When the new school is ready for use, the original one – built in the early 1960s on the same site – will be demolished.
Kelly Road Secondary School serves the Hart Highway and regions to the north of Prince George.
