Live music is back at Vanier Hall, and as the premier concert venue in School District 57 there is no better place for students to be the stars of the show.
COVID-19 caused public gatherings to go dark for so long that the first notes played at MusicFest Fanfare might seem to ring across the entire watershed. All five Prince George high schools will have bands involved in these two nights of performances, plus an elementary school and more.
"This year the event is moving to a showcase, rather than an adjudicated festival," said Duchess Park Secondary School's band director Jon Campbell, on behalf of colleagues Sam Nelles (Prince George Secondary), Susan Klein (DP Todd Secondary), Rob Hannigan (College Heights Secondary), and Krista Radway (Shas Ti Kelly Road Secondary).
The two nights of performances are April 21 (7pm to 9pm) and 22 (6:45pm to 8:50pm). The shows will feature jazz bands, drumlines, junior and senior ensembles, and some surprises as well.
"This is being billed as our return to live music and live audiences," said Campbell.
It is free of charge to attend and celebrate the talents of these students and their teachers.
