Montessori Programs

Education should no longer be mostly imparting of knowledge, but must take a new path, seeking the release of human potentialities...Scientific observation then has established that education is not what the teacher gives; education is a natural process spontaneously carried out by the human individual, and is acquired not by listening to words but by the experiences upon the environment. The task of the teacher becomes that of preparing a series of motives of cultural activity, spread over a specially prepared environment, and then refraining from obtrusive interference.  Human teachers can only help the great work that is being done, as servants help the master.  Doing so, they will be witness to the unfolding of the human soul and to the rising of a New Man who will not be the victim of events, but will have the clarity of vision to direct and shape the future of human society.

School District No. 57 (Prince George) offers K-7 Montessori programs at Polaris Montessori Elementary School and a Gr. 8-9 program at Prince George Secondary School.

Montessori programs, based on the work done by Maria Montessori, emphasize learning through self-discovery, working in multi-aged groups, following a curriculum rich in hands on materials, and the development of the intrinsic motivation of the learner.

Both programs are supported by the Prince George Montessori Education Society, www.pgmontessori.ca a non-profit society which promotes Montessori preschool and school aged programs for Prince George.
