On Thursday, November 27th, Canfor in Prince George hosted an Elementary Trades Program at its Northwood Pulp and PG Sawmill facilities. The 30 students from Heather Park Elementary, Prince George's largest Elementary School with a student population of over 700 students, signed up for the 1-day program with an interest in learning more about the Trades and the BC Forest Industry. The grade 7 students were able to get a first hand look at Canfor's mill operations and visit various tradespeople in action.
The day consisted of a start at Northwood Pulp with a safety orientation and tour , a pizza lunch hosted by Northwood Pulp, and then a trip over to PG Sawmill where they examined that facility and trades people in detail. Trades that were highlighted for the students included Saw filing, Machine Fabricators, Saw Filers, Electricians, and Pipefitters. Possibly a future trades person will come from this enthusiastic and interested group of students from Heather Park Elementary!
