The school, situated in the Heritage Subdivision, was built in 1977 and officially opened in September 1978. Its name honours former District Superintendent of Schools, David Todd, who retired from School District No. 57 in 1976. Initially the school housed Grades 8 to 10, but progressed to Grade 11 and 12 by 1979. June 1980 saw the first graduating class leave D.P. Todd Secondary School.
Situated adjacent to D. P. Todd is one of the elementary schools in our family of schools, Heritage Elementary. Foothills Elementary and Quinson Elementary schools are also members of our family of schools. D. P. Todd enrolls about 750 students. The school is located in a quiet neighborhood and is served by Prince George Transit Service.
