PROM & DRY GRAD 2021 - PARENT SPONSORED

Parent Grad 2021 Committee Update

Greetings to all parents,

We’d like to update you on what’s going on for the Grad 2021 class, and ask for your support. We’re currently raising money for a Covid-friendly way to celebrate and honour our graduates. We thank the school for their support in sending out material to grad parents, both through email and through documents sent home with students. However, we do know that not all parents have received this information as yet.

Parents organize, volunteer, and fundraise for dry grad and prom, and the school organizes and is financially responsible for the valedictory ceremony. Like last year, the school plans to video the valedictory ceremony at Vanier Hall in early June. More information will be available on the school website.

For our parent organized activities, we have several goals:

To be inclusive – we are planning to include all graduates in our recognition who want to participate

To be safe – we don’t want to put our students or volunteers at risk

To be celebratory – we want to do something for our graduates that celebrates their accomplishments

To be realistic – we don’t want to overpromise what we’ll be able to do

To be flexible - what this is going to look like is still in question, and we’re trying to keep our options open while keeping an eye on the changing public health orders

We also want to recognize that this has been a difficult time for many families.

To help support our students, you can:

Buy or sell raffle tickets for our 50/50 draw (only $10 for a chance to win $10,000):

Deanna McLeod will be at the school in the student parking lot 2:45-3:05 Tuesday & Thursdays, white Yukon XL, Student Parking lot, top of drive thru lane (by handicap spots)

She’s happy to sign out raffle books to your grad student, or sell tickets to people. If you can’t make it then, please text 250-981-2202 and she’ll make it happen!

Donate your empty bottle:

There is an account set up at Nechako Bottle depot (1st Avenue) and PG Recycling and Return it Centre (by Costco). The account number for Nechako is 781, and the account for the Return it Centre is “Duchess Park Grad 2021”. For Nechako, if you go in the main entrance and let them know you are dropping off for them to count later, they will open the white garage door for you to drop off into one of their bins.  You do not have to stay.

If you'd like bottles picked up from your house, please let Tami Rowe know at tlrowe73@gmail.com

Donate towards our calendar raffle:

If you’re looking to help out to make this Grad memorable for the DPSS Class of 2021, but can’t commit your time - we get it! It’s a busy time for many, but have you considered donating to the calendar raffle? Cash or gift certificates would be highly welcomed and only take a few minutes to arrange! It's also a great way to publicize your small business.

If you’re able to donate, please contact calendar organizers Leanne Harasym or Nicole Walters. Leanne’s cell is 250-613-7670. They would be happy to meet up with you.

Donate money:

We also are happy to accept any financial donations!
