Happy New Year to our families and community. Staff and students have spend the first part of the school year focusing on how we can all SOAR at Foothills (Safety, Ownership, Achievement, Respect). This will continue. This first week students will once again work with teachers and review all behaviour expectations in all areas of the school. To compliment our SOAR work, we introduced the 7 Sacred Teachings, an Aboriginal perspective on values. The teachings we have focused on since the start of the year have been: respect, tolerance and humility. We will start the new year with learning what the importance place wisdom plays in Aboriginal culture and connect this to concept of achievement in our SOAR. Ask your child what they are learning about these very important character values at home. Here`s to a meaningful 2017.

Classes have been challenged over the next two weeks to read for 15 minutes per day and to do some physical activities for 30 minutes per day, per student. A bonus is to perform a random act of kindness per day as well. Upon the completion of the challenge the classes will qualify for FREE tickets to attend a WHL hockey game! Please encourage your child to participate in this challenge and to dedicate time to health, literacy and well-being!
