Daily Physical Activity (DPA)

As of last year, the Ministry has required students in grades K to 12 to participate in physical activity. In grades K - 9, students are required to be active 30 minutes daily as part of an educational program. In grades 10 - 12, students must document a minimum of 150 minutes per week of physical activity.

In an effort to meet this requirement, we offer PE 9 every second day, so students are active throughout the year. Students in grades 10 - 12 must document physical activity using print tracking sheets, electronic tracking devices, letters, or other evidence. Daily Physical Activity tracking sheets are available on our website.

There are a variety of ways that students may meet this requirement in grades 10 - 12. For example they could participate in:

  • PE 10 (mandatory), PE 11, Personal Fitness 11, PE 12
  • lunch time intramurals
  • lunch time activities
  • a team sport at Kelly Road
  • an individual or team sport outside of school
  • physical activities at home: jogging, brisk walking, horseback riding, bicycle riding, skiing, snowboarding, skateboarding, canoeing, water skiing, dirt bike riding, snowmobiling family hike etc.

Completion of the Daily Physical Activity requirements for grades 10 -12 will be on a honour system. Completed tracking sheets will not be collected by the school; however, students and parents sign documents distributed in Planning 10 and Grad Transitions 12, indicating their intent to complete the Daily Physical Activity requirements.

The following website may be accessed to obtain sample tracking sheets: http://www.bced.gov.bc.ca/dpa/log.htm
