Ministry of Education Announcement
School District No. 57 (Prince George) Board Chair, Tim Bennett and Kelly Road Secondary School Grade 12 student, Laura Parent stand at the podium while Shirley Bond, MLA for Prince George-Valemount, Mike Morris, MLA for Prince George-Mackenzie and Kelly Road Mascot, Roadrunner look on. Chair Tim Bennett comments:"Kelly Road Secondary has a great history in the community as the only secondary school in Prince George north of the Nechako River. The current building is nearing end of life and the Board of Education is excited that today's announcement will mean that the community will be able to continue that legacy in a new building. When the project is complete students and staff will have a facility that is modern, energy efficient and that is designed to meet the needs of 21st century learning and teaching."Laura Parent spoke with gratitude about her years at Kelly Road, noting that the school is much more than a building. "Kelly Road is a community." She is excited that future students will be able to experience this community in a fully accessible state-of-the-art facility on the same site. The new school will be built to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold standards with natural light and large open learning spaces designed to support BC's redesigned curriculum. Kelly Road Secondary students will continue to study in the existing school building until construction is complete, after which time the existing structure will be demolished. The project is scheduled to begin in the Fall of 2017.
