JUNIOR FIRE CREW - November 2023 - May 2024This is a training and skill development program run through the Wildland Fire Service division of the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations. Ten participants are chosen through an application, interview and fitness test process. These participants will train with the Wildland Fire Service over the course of the school year. Up to five of these participants may be employed the summer after graduation as a junior member on a fire crew. The junior fire crew member must have their 'N' license by the time of employment, as they will be transporting supplies into the crews. They will be on the front line fighting forest fires, establishing fire breaks and doing other necessary work as needed with their crew. This program is an exciting opportunity to train in the forest firefighting field and is open to students in Grade 12. |

RCMP YOUTH ACADEMY - March 17 - 23, 2024This program is offered to students interested in a career in policing or law enforcement. Students are provided with a "boot camp" style experience during a week of their Spring Break. Approximately 32 student from Northern BC stay at a Prince George secondary school 24 hours a day for the week. RCMP officers provide training opportunities on a wide range of topics from major crimes to victim services. Successful students must be very physically fit. All students will be given a fitness test prior to their acceptance into this program. Entry into this program will be through an application /interview process. Applications are available here or at all secondary schools.

KINDERGARTEN HEALTH CIRCUITS - January 2024This is a short duration program aimed at students who are interested in all aspects of health services. Each year Northern Health provides a health exams to all Kindergarten students of School District 57. Grade 11 and 12 students are offered short term work experiences assisting the healthcare professionals with the various immunizations and tests in areas such as hygiene, audiology, ophthalmology, and general health. These "Northern Health Circuits" occur in January and February. Students can sign up for a four- hour shift on days that are convenient for them. It is very important that students attend all sessions they sign up for. |

ADVENTURES IN HEALTH CARE - May 5-8, 2024This is a four-day program designed by Rotary Club of Prince George: Yellowhead in collaboration with Northern Health, College of New Caledonia, University of Northern British Columbia and School District No. 57. Forty-eight SD57 students will join in this interactive, hands-on experience. Through these hands on activities in medical training facilities as well as in college and university laboratories, and through meeting with current students, educators and professional workers, students will come away with a clearer understanding about what it means to be a health care professional.

PRINCE GEORGE FIRE RESCUE - April - June 2024This program provides 60 hours of job shadowing with a fire/rescue crew out of their main fire hall in downtown Prince George. Students interested in a career in structural firefighting are encouraged to apply. Students are assigned to a fire crew and follow their daily regime of training and attending calls. Students are accepted into this program through an application/interview process. |
